A Powerful Fuel for Microbiome Diversity and Gastrointestinal Health
The gut microbiome refers to the collection of trillions of microbes living within the gastrointestinal tract. Positively influencing the microbiome is a major health goal for many consumers. Unfortunately, they are going about it the wrong way with largely ineffective strategies and supplements.
One of the key factors associated with a healthy intestinal microbiome is diversity. Diversity refers to a broad range of microbes both in terms of species and strains. While there are several key bacteria associated with a healthy microbiome, in general, the greater the diversity, the healthier the microbiome functions and the better health we enjoy.
One of the greatest influencers of microbial diversity are the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. But, it is not just any fish oil that is going to produce the best results. Enzymedica has chosen a different ratio of the omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil that is substantially different than what is found in other fish oil supplements. Part of this change is based upon standardizing the DPA in the fatty acid profile, other reasons include recent studies showing higher levels of DHA to EPA exerts a more profound effect on the microbiome and greater benefits, especially in the gut. Enzymedica has developed its fish oil suite to have the following ratio: DHA 4: EPA 2: DPA 1. Interestingly, this ratio is very close to what is seen in wild salmon.
DPA is the Missing Element in Other Fish Oil Products
DPA serves as the intermediate in the conversion of EPA to DHA. In other words, the body converts EPA to DPA on the pathway to making DHA. The body can also convert DPA back to EPA, so, in essence DPA serves as a storage reservoir for both DHA and EPA – as dietary intake of DPA increases, the tissue levels of both DHA and EPA increase. Without question, DPA is equally as important as EPA and DHA in fish oils, and data suggests it is an absolute required component of any fish oil supplement.
Although separating the health benefits of DPA is a complicated because there is so much interrelationship between EPA, DPA, and DHA, the emerging scientific story is how important DPA is to the total benefits of fish oil supplementation. For example, population-based trials have demonstrated that higher levels of DPA in human blood are associated with increased degrees of reported health benefits common to fish oil supplementation.
Manufacturing Advantages – The Purest Fish Oil on the Planet:
The major advantages and unique innovations of Aqua Biome are largely due to our breakthrough manufacturing process. Through our “Targeted Molecular Enrichment Technology” (TMET), we overcome the disadvantages with other methods of concentrating fish oils. Processes such as molecular distillation, super critical fluid extraction, and column separation concentrate EPA and DHA, but at the expense of DPA and other omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, TMET provides unparalleled removal of lipid peroxides, heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants. This unique process produces purest fish oil on the planet.
Quality control testing on our fish oil exceeds industry standards and includes:
- Lipid peroxide and secondary oxidation products measure the amount of damaged fats.
- Testing for over 300 environmental contaminants including dioxins, PCBs, pesticide residues, and other toxic compounds.
- Strict measurements of heavy metals including lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury.
Our fish oil exceeds all quality control requirements for fish oils as expressed by both government organizations (FDA, Health Canada, European Union, TGA, etc.), the World Health Organization, United States Pharmacopeia (USP), and trade organizations (iFOS, GOED, etc). The bottom line is that there is not a higher quality fish oil on the market.
